Alison CT - Trancparency Background

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing an art journal page created using the new background transparencies with the doodle art dragonfly.

To begin I spritzed a page in my Dina Wakley media white journal with picked raspberry distress oxide spray. The blue down the edge of the page is overspill from the next page.

Next I cut out the circles part of the background transparency, cutting close to the design. I used gel medium to glue it to the page.

To balance the blue on the right of the page, I added areas to the page using the abstract circles big one with Stormy Sky distress oxide.

Next, just using the circles surrounded by dots in various sizes from the big ones Fern Flourish with picked raspberry distress oxide add more texture to the background.

I then stamped the dragonfly on a seperate piece of card and coloured it with distress watercolour pencils. I then cut it out.

Next I stamped the sentiment and cut it into four seperate pieces.

Next I glued the dragonfly and sentiment to the page using gel medium.

Finally I added white splats using a white posca pen.

Sally CT - Mandala Medley

Hi There! I thought I would show you how I made this colourful mandala card. 

On a 14x14cm square of card I stamped a medium sized mandala stamp 3 times overhanging the edges and clear embossed (The embossing isn't necessary if you want to speed up the process.)

Next I stamped the mandalas I had chosen to use on to a stamp and mask sheet and cut them out

I used the masks to cover the mandalas I had already stamped and then stamped over them until the whole of the piece of card was covered in mandalas. If you are embossing it is worth adding the embossing powder after stamping each 2 or 3 mandalas and heat embossing as you go.

if not embossing it is worth heat setting the ink with a little waft of the heat tool at this point. 

next I used the distress inks to paint the mandalas 

whilst this dried I stamped and embossed a sentiment in white on black card and cut it out

I used a pale grey ecoline to add a little shadow around the edges of a few of the circles, and covered a few less than perfect bits of stamping with a sequin or three. I added the sentiment on sticky pads and mounted it on to a card blank. 

Here is the finished card again.

I decided to recreate a card posted a couple of weeks ago as I’ve been asked how I made it. Using these background stamps as a main image is something I love to do.

Cut a piece of watercolour card 11.5cm x 16.5cm. 

With an Ecoline pen, scribble a couple of lines across a piece of acetate (use a clear one that comes with a set of stamps). Spritz with a fine mist of water & place ‘landscape’ across the watercolour card… 

Lift the acetate & there should be a few small spots of colour left on it, add these to the edges.

Dry the ink, the repeat the process with a contrasting colour, I chose blue & orange this time. 

There’s a sample at the end with pink & yellow… 

Whilst your background dries, cut three circles out of card 8cm, 4cm (approx) & 1cm…

Colour the circles with Distress Oxide Inks, I chose Barn Door & Broken China as they coordinated with the Ecoline colours. The two larger circles blended in the same colour & the smaller in the opposing colour… 

Using Versafine Clair Nocturne stamp the bottom left ‘scribble’ stamp, from the Backgrounds 2 set, across (landscape) the card… 

Place a circle over to one side of the inked background, line up the stamp with the previous stamped image & stamp. Don’t worry if it doesn’t quite match you can fill in with a black Micron pen after. 

Repeat on the other side & with the small circle… 

Glue the circles down & cut off any overhang. Draw around the circle edge, this creates definition & depth… 

Stamp the large dragonfly in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink onto a separate piece of card & die cut… 

Colour the body of the dragonfly with an Ecoline … 

Chose a sentiment (mine was from Ticker Tape set 4) stamp & cut out… 

You can add a few dots with a black Micron pen & a white Gelly Roll pen… 

Glue all the elements onto your background,  mat & layer on to black card & a 5”x7” card blank…

Alison CT - Collage background

Hi everyone,  today I'm sharing an art journal page that I created using an old book page, washi tape, stencils and the largest mandala stamp.

To begin I tore strips from the washi and used gel medium to stick them to the page in my Dina Wakley 6x6 white journal. I then did the same with a page from an old book. Leave for the gel medium to dry.

Next I spritzer two distress oxides onto the page and lightly sprayed with water. I mopped up any excess with kitchen roll, then dried with a heat gun.

Next I added grit texture paste through a texture disc from set 1 and left this to dry naturally.

I then used a brown micron pen to draw through the brick wall inkable.

Then on a seperate piece of card I stamped the largest mandala from set 1 using a brown ink. I used stazon spiced chai. I then coloured just the flower part of the image using distress watercolour pencils and cut it out. This I then used gel medium to glue to the page.

Next I used one of the journaling girls border stamps to add a bitbof detail to the edges of the page. I also chose a sentiment from ticker tape 4, stamped it with brown ink, cut it out and glued it to the page with gel medium.

Sally CT - Bee Tag

Hi There! Thought I would show you how I made this mdf tag for Bee Monarchy day. 

I began by painting the MDF tag using acrylic paints. Some of these were shimmer/metallic and some were not. I painted them onto the tag blending the edges.  

Next I used black gesso through the full honeycomb inkable and added a little more around the edges.

Once this was dry I added some stamping using the crowns and honeycomb stamps from the bee Monarchy set using a brown versafine Clair ink.

on a scrap piece of card I stamped the bee 3 times with versafine clair black ink. I coloured them with ecoline pens and cut them out using the die set. 

I stamped a sentiment from the small words set and added that and the bees to the tag using ultra thick gel medium. 

Here is the finished tag with a little yellow ribbon though.

I’m sure I’m not the only one with a journal (or 2) sitting around waiting for some colour be it paint, ink or whatever medium you prefer. This week I got the black Dylusions journal out & added colour!

I started by squeezing a little of each colour (except the black) onto a craft mat & spread with a brayer, slightly over lapping & blending. Then rolled some of the excess on to a spare piece of paper (or spread on another journal page) …

I rolled the paint to the black journal page, forgot to take a photo of this, sorry. 

To add more colour I used some Lemon Zest through the Distressed Diamonds Inkable… 

Next I added some Pure Sunshine through the stripes of the Triangle Stripes Inkable .. 

and then used the Bubblegum Pink through the triangles…

At this stage it looked a bit haphazard & decided to add some white Gesso through one of the texture discs… 

I let the paint dry before adding some dots using the Texture Boarders & Hero Arts white & black inks. Again this helped break up the background… 

Next I cut off some of the excess acetate from one of the Transparency Faces & added some white Posca lines to the back of the face… 

I used a stapler to fix the face to my page, you could use matt medium or Glossy Accents…

To finish I chose some Wordy Stickers from set #2 & glued them to my page & added some more doodles with Posca Pens, wherever I felt the colour needed breaking up…
